FIX: A floating-point exception occurs when an application contains an uninitialized floating-point variable and is compiled with the /fp:expect option in Visual Studio 2008

When you run a C++ application that contains an uninitialized floating-point variable in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, a floating-point exception occurs. Additionally, you may receive the following error message: This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

• You add the /fp:except option to the compiler option list to disable the floating-point exception.
• The source code contains an uninitialized floating-point variable.
• The uninitialized floating-point variable is located in a memory that contains a signaling not-a-number (NaN) value.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.
