You cannot directly change an investment to another
security type in Microsoft Money. For example, you are unable to change a stock
to a mutual fund.
This article discusses methods to work around this
limitation.
If you do not have many investment transactions, the
easiest method to work around this limitation is to create a new investment,
and then re-create your transactions using the new investment.
If
you do have a large number of investment transactions, you can move your
transactions to the new investment one at a time.
To do this:
| 1. | Create the new investment with the security type that you
want. |
| 2. | Create a large purchase for the old investment, at a date
prior to the date of your first purchase. The amount of shares should be
greater than all future investment transactions (such as Sell or Remove Shares)
that reduce the amount of shares.
For example, if you have sold a
total of 200 shares of this investment, enter an Add Shares transaction for 201
or more shares. Alternatively, you can simply enter a very large Add Shares
transaction. |
| 3. | Starting with your first investment transaction,
double-click the transaction, click the new investment in the Investment box, and then click Enter.
For example, if your first transaction was a Buy for
100 shares of the old investment, enter a Buy for 100 shares of the new
investment. |
| 4. | Repeat step 3 for each transactions in the order in which
you originally entered the transactions, until you have added all of your
transactions to the new investment. |
| 5. | Delete the investment transaction that you added in step 2
to correct the share balance for the new investment. |
