Free/Busy information from a foreign system such as Lotus Notes or Novell GroupWise may not be available to users in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later. The foreign system client runs as you expect on the Exchange server.

One known root cause is the absence of the foreign system proxy address on the Exchange System mailbox. If absence of the proxy address on the system mailbox is the problem, you will observe normal functioning of the Exchange Calendar Connector when it is run in console mode. You will see no errors even if the mapical, calsync, notescal values are added to the Providers subkey of the following registry key:

If you increase the diagnostic logging level for Calendar Connector to Maximum, the following information events may be logged in the application event log:

This behavior occurs because the system mailbox in Exchange 2000 does not have a proxy address for the foreign system address type. For example, if you configure Calendar Connector with Lotus Notes, the system mailbox must have a Lotus Notes proxy address.

To resolve this behavior,use one of the following methods to add the appropriate proxy address to the MSExchange System Attendant.

Method One

The proxy address may be absent because of a behavior or conflict in your recipient policies. For example, for Lotus Notes, make sure that you click the Lotus Notes proxy address for a recipient policy that applies to system attendant mailbox objects. The default policy will apply to the system attendant.

Method Two

Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, or both Windows and Exchange. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.
Although Microsoft does not recommend this method, you can manually add the proxy address by using ADSI Edit, which is in Microsoft Windows 2000 Support Tools. Make sure you have a System State backup of your Active Directory before you try this procedure. After you start ADSI Edit you must connect to a domain controller, browse to the following location, and then click to expand the following object: Right-click System Attendant, click Properties, in the Select which Properties to View box the default is Optional, click to change this default setting to Both. In the Select a Property to view box, locate the proxyAddresses attribute, and then add the required proxy address (if the required proxy address is absent).

If you connect your Calendar Connector to Lotus Notes, the system attendant proxy address has the following format: Note that the first proxy address (primary) must begin with capital letters. For example, the first Lotus Notes address must begin by using "NOTES:", and any secondary proxy addresses begin by using lower case letters, such as "notes:".
