SUMMARY

The Windows Easy Transfer Companion (WETC) is a program that you can use to help transfer programs from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) to a computer that is running Windows Vista. WETC does not replace Windows Easy Transfer. Instead, WETC is an independent program that complements Windows Easy Transfer. You can use WETC to transfer many kinds of programs between two computers that are connected by an Easy Transfer Cable or by a network connection.

Best practices for performing a program transfer

We recommend that you consider the following list of best practices when you transfer programs from Windows XP to Windows Vista:
Run an antivirus program to scan each computer before you start the program transfer operation.
If you are transferring programs to or from a mobile PC, connect the mobile PC to a power source before you perform the program transfer operation.
Verify that the programs that you want to transfer work correctly before you perform the transfer operation.
Configure the drives on the destination computer so that they match the configuration of the source computer.
After the program transfer has completed successfully, let WETC perform the post-transfer steps before you start to use the destination computer.
