The Windows Easy Transfer Companion (WETC) is a program that you can use to help transfer programs from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) to a computer that is running Windows Vista. WETC does not replace Windows Easy Transfer. Instead, WETC is an independent program that complements Windows Easy Transfer. You can use WETC to transfer many kinds of programs between two computers that are connected by an Easy Transfer Cable or by a network connection.

Items that Windows Easy Transfer Companion cannot transfer
WETC does not transfer the following kinds of programs:
•
Programs that do not use an installation program. For example, WETC does not detect some plug-in programs. Therefore, these plug-in programs do not appear in the program selection list.
•
Antivirus programs and operating system monitoring programs. These kinds of programs appear under Will Not Transfer in the program selection list.
•
Programs that are already installed on the destination computer. These programs appear under Will Not Transfer in the program selection list.
Known limitations of Windows Easy Transfer Companion
The following list describes the known limitations of WETC:
•
You must plug the Easy Transfer Cable directly into each computer. Currently, WETC does not support using a USB hub.
•
WETC does not transfer programs between two hard disks on the same computer.
•
WETC does not support a dual-boot environment.
•
WETC does not transfer the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. If your programs require the .NET Framework 1.1, you must install this program before you perform the transfer operation. For more information about how to obtain the .NET Framework 1.1 program, visit the following Microsoft Web sites:
