Modem does not work on a non-English language version of Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

After you install a modem by using Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel, you cannot use the modem to dial. This problem occurs although the modem appears to be installed correctly.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when both the following conditions are true:

You use a non-English language version of Microsoft Windows XP.
You installed your modem as one of the Standard Modem Types in Phone and Modem Options. ("Standard 56000 bps Modem" is an example of a Standard Modem Type.)

Note This problem has been reported with the Swedish version of Windows.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
