Article ID: 873156 - Last Review: August 13, 2007 - Revision: 3.4 You cannot check for updates to the broadband networking software after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2SYMPTOMSAfter you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2),
you cannot check for updates to the Microsoft Broadband Network Utility (BNU).
On the Help menu for BNU, when you click Check for
Updates Online, the Broadband Networking Update Service Web site does
not load. CAUSEThis problem occurs if the Autopost.htm file for Broadband
Networking does not contain a Mark of the Web comment line. When Internet
Explorer loads the Autopost.htm file, Internet Explorer searches for a Mark of
the Web comment. If a Mark of the Web comment is present, Internet Explorer
reads the URL and uses the settings for that Internet Explorer zone to
determine what security policy to apply to the Web page. If a Mark of the Web
comment is not present when you check for an update, Internet Explorer
unsuccessfully searches your local network and your computer for the Broadband
Networking Update Service Web site. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, add the Mark of the Web comment
line to the Autopost.htm file:
STATUSMicrosoft
