How to back up and restore the registry in Windows XP and Windows VistaSYMPTOMSThis article discusses that Windows Explorer crashes on a Windows Vista-based computer or on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer that runs Windows Live Family Safety. This problem occurs when you run or start Windows Explorer. This problem causes Windows Explorer to crash and then restart. CAUSEOn some Windows Vista or Windows XP SP2 configurations, the Family Safety Browser Helper Object causes an access violation in Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe). When Family Safety Browser Helper Object is unloaded from Windows Explorer, the object releases a thread local storage (TLS) slot that it does not own. RESOLUTIONWarning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. A hotfix that resolves this problem is expected in January 2008. Currently, you can use one of the following options to resolve this problem. Option 1: Download a file to modify the registryDownload and run a file to modify the registry.
