An ad hoc network connection is not automatically reconnected when you restart Windows Vista

SYMPTOMS

You use a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network connection in Windows Vista. When you restart Windows, the ad hoc network connection is not automatically reconnected.

Note This issue may also occur when one of the following conditions is true:
  • You forcibly close an ad hoc network connection by shutting down a wireless network.
  • You disable and then enable the network adapters.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Windows Vista does not automatically reconnect an ad hoc network connection.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, reconnect the ad hoc network connection. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start

    Start button
    , and then click Connect To.
  2. In the Connect to a network dialog box, click Set up a connection or network.
  3. Click Set up an ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network, click Next, and then follow the steps in the wizard.
