SYMPTOMS

When you use a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection to connect to a Windows XP-based computer, the computer stops responding at the following screen:
Windows is loading your profile
If you restart the Windows XP-based computer, you can connect to the computer.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of a deadlock in the RDP Device redirector driver (Rdpdr.sys). When one user logs off the computer, the corresponding session is cleaned up. However, if the corresponding session cleanup is incomplete when another user tries to connect to the computer, the two operations may use the same session ID. Therefore, the deadlock occurs.
