An application or service that uses a file system filter driver may experience function failure on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Server 2008
An application or service that uses a file system filter driver may experience function failure on a computer that is running one of the following operating systems:
Windows Server 2003
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2008
For example, an application performs a real-time data replication among volumes by using a file system filter driver. However, the application does not detect the data changes on some volumes. Therefore, the data cannot be replicated to other volumes.
This issue occurs because of a race condition in the filter manager.
When a volume is mounted and a new frame is created by the filter manager at the same time, a race condition may occur. When the race condition occurs, the filter manager misses the new mounted volume. Therefore, some file system filter drivers cannot be attached to the volume for the filter I/O operations.

Service Pack 1 is integrated into the release version of Windows Server 2008. Therefore, RTM milestone files apply only to Windows Vista. RTM milestone files have a 6.0.0000.xxxxxx version number.
The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista" section. MUM files and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
