Error message when you try to change a password on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2: "The specified account does not exist"Article ID: 978277 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you log on to a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 by using a user principal name (UPN), you cannot change the password. Additionally, you receive the following error message: "The specified account does not exist." (KDC_ERR_C_PRINCIPAL_UNKNOWN) This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
CAUSEThis issue occurs because an incorrect realm name is used to build the Kerberos password change request. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
