Certificate store types are truncated when you create a new connection security rule in some non-English versions of Windows 7

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You install a non-English version of Windows 7 on a computer. For example, you install the Portuguese (Brazilian) version of Windows 7.
You configure Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, and then you specify a new connection security rule.
On the Authentication Method page, you view the Certificate store type list.

In this scenario, the certificate store types are truncated, and both store types have the same name. For example, the certificate store types are displayed as follows in the Portuguese version of Windows 7:

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of a code defect in the Windows localization process. This issue does not affect the functionality of Windows Firewall. This issue affects only the display of the certificate store type information.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

At a command prompt, use the following command to configure the new connection security rule:

netsh.exe advfirewall

Method 2

On the Authentication Method page, do one of the following:

To select Root CA (default), click the first entry in the Certificate store type list.
To select Intermediate CA, click the second entry in the Certificate store type list.

Note The Certificate store type list will always display its contents in the same order, regardless of the language text.

Method 3

Create the new connection security rule by using any selection from the Certificate store type list in the wizard. Then, configure the rule by using the Authentication tab of the Properties dialog box of the created rule to change the certificate store type. By setting the authentication method to Advanced, you enable the Customize button to open the Customize Advanced Authentication Methods dialog box, where the first and second authentication methods can be specified.

Steps to reproduce the problem

To reproduce this problem when you create a new connection security rule, follow these steps:

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click System and Security.
Click Windows Firewall.
Click Advanced settings.
Click Connection Security Rules.
Right-click Connection Security Rules, and then click New Rule.
Under What type of connection security rule would you like to create?, click Server-to-server, and then click Next.
On the Endpoints page, click Next.
On the Requirements page, click Next.
On the Authentication Method page, click the Certificate store type list. Both certificate store types are listed as having the same name.
