SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure a state migration point role on a System Center Configuration Manager 2007 RTM site server.
  • You capture some user states and then restore them.
  • You wait long enough for the state store to be deleted on this state migration point.
After the state store deletion occurs, you find that only two expired stores are deleted. Other expired stores are not deleted.

Additionally, the Smpmgr.log file indicates that the first store deletion is successful but the second store deletion fails with the following error message:
CheckAndDeleteSMPStores failed with error code (80004005)

CAUSE

The state migration point module does not correctly initialize the computer name length for the next iteration when it deletes expired state stores in a loop. The issue causes the second attempt to remove the expired store. After the expired store is deleted, you receive the error message.
