FIX: Blank spaces between some items are generated incorrectly in a SQL Server 2008 or a SQL Server 2008 R2 report

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • In a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008) or a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008 R2) report that has many items, you embed a Chart control into a Tablix data region of the report.
  • You configure an expression in the DynamicHeight property and in the DynamicWidth property of the Chart control.

    Note You notice that the height and the width of the charts in the Chart control increases or decreases according to the expression.
  • You export or print the report from the report designer or from the report manager.
In this scenario, blank spaces between some items are generated unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because charts rasterize incorrectly in browsers. The HTMLRenderer class writes the width and height as a shared style. Therefore, the charts have different sizes based on dynamic widths and heights.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
