CAUSEInternet Information Services version 6.0 does not honor the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property. RESOLUTIONAfter you install this hotfix, Internet Information Services version 6.0 honors the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER property. Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. MORE INFORMATIONThe ETAG value for a static file response is generated by using the last-changed time and the metabase change-number. In Internet Information Services version 5.0, the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property is used instead of the metabase change-number if the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property, ID 2039, is present. When certain metabase properties are changed, Internet Information Services version 5.0 automatically updates the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property. Because of architectural changes in Internet Information Services version 6.0, the MD_ETAG_CHANGENUMBER metabase property is not automatically updated. The following Internet Information Services version 5.0 properties do not apply to Internet Information Services version 6.0:
