Symptoms

When attempting to type accented characters in Microsoft Expression Web 3 the characters will appear without the accent marks.

Cause

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Resolution



To work around this issue, you can copy and paste the characters from the Character Map application or another program.

Steps to launch Character Map:
  1. On the Start menu click All Programs then click Accessories
  2. Then click System Tools
  3. Finally double click on Character Map within System Tools.


On the Start menu click Control Panel. Double click the Character Map

Steps to reproduce this issue:
  1. Change the keyboard layout to "French (Canada", "Canadian Multilingual Standard" by using Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel
  2. Use Notepad or similar editor to type the ê character. With a US keyboard you will probably need to press [, then e
  3. Use the same keystrokes in Expression Web 3 within Design View or Code View. The character will display as an "e" instead of "ê"
