SBS2008: Cannot browse OWA, Server Error in '/owa' Application

Symptoms

If you try to browse OWA, you may get the following error.

Server Error in '/owa' Application.

Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Exchange.Data, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Failed to grant permission to execute. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131418)

Cause

This issue can occur if you SBS Web Applications web site does not have .NET Trust Levels set to Full.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1.) Open IIS Manager

2.) In the left-pane, expand Server Name -> Sites -> Click on SBS Web Applications

3.) Double-click .NET Trust Levels in the middle pane.

4.) Change the Trust level to Full (internal).

5.) Click Apply in the Actions pane.

6.) Do IISRESET /noforce.

Note: In order to enable the details of the error message, you may have to modify the Web.config file under C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\OWA\. Open the file in Notepad, and change the <customErrors> tag "mode" attribute to "RemoteOnly".
