After you install Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1), starting a very large self-extracting program file may take a long time, or the program file may not start and you may receive a time-out error message.
Memory Manager was changed for security reasons to determine whether any process has written to the program file when a program file (or DLL) starts. If the file has changed, it is completely backed by the paging file to prevent unexpected changes to the program file (or DLL) while it is running.
Service pack informationTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
This problem may occur with self-extracting program files that are built with IExpress or Winzip, or may occur with .msi packages. You may experience this problem only with program files that are larger than 150 megabytes (MB), or if the paging file does not have enough space left to hold the program file
There might be rare situations in which this problem occurs even after you install the hotfix (such as starting a program file from Windows Explorer while Windows Explorer has the file open to extract icons).
