A 3.5-inch disk is a removable storage media with a storage capacity of 1.2 megabytes (MB). The disk is inserted into drive A of your computer. After a file is copied from your hard disk to a 3.5-inch disk, the disk can be removed from your computer and inserted into drive A of another computer. The file can then be copied from the 3.5-inch disk to the hard disk of the other computer.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Copy a File From My Documents to a 3.5-Inch Disk

To copy a file from the My Documents folder to a floppy disk, follow these steps:
  1. Insert a blank 3.5-inch disk into drive A.
  2. Click Start, right-click My Documents, and then click Explore.

    This will open your My Documents folder in Windows Explorer.
  3. In the right pane of Windows Explorer, click the file you want to copy to the disk. If you want to copy more than one file to the 3.5-inch disk, press and hold CTRL, click each file you want to copy, and then release CTRL.

    Note: A 3.5-inch disk will hold a total of 1.2 MB of data.
  4. Right-click a selected file, point to Send To, and then click 3 1/2 Floppy (A).
  5. Wait for the file copy to complete before you remove the 3.5-inch disk from drive A.

Copy a File from a 3.5-Inch Disk to My Documents

  1. Insert the 3.5-inch disk that contains the files you want to copy into drive A.
  2. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Explore.
  3. In Windows Explorer, double-click 3 1/2 Floppy (A).
  4. In the right pane of Windows Explorer, click the file you want to copy to the My Documents folder. If you want to copy more than one file to My Documents, press and hold CTRL, click each file you want to copy, and then release CTRL.
  5. Right-click a selected file, point to Send To, and then click My Documents.
  6. Wait for the file copy to complete before you remove the 3.5-inch disk from drive A.
