SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based computer that has Update Rollup 2 for Windows Media Center Edition 2005 installed, you may not be able to use Media Center to change the language of a DVD movie.

Note With some DVD movies, the problem may only occur if you use Media Center to change the language more than one time during a single viewing session.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
  • Use the DVD menu instead of using Media Center to change the language.

Note The settings to change the language for individual DVDs will vary depending on the features of the specific DVD.
  • After you change the language in Media Center, take one of the following steps:
    • Select Restart the movie.
    • Eject the DVD, and then reinsert it.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem may occur with some DVD movies. The problem does not occur when you use the DVD menu to change the language. For example, the problem can occur in the following scenario:
  1. While a DVD is playing, press the STOP button to stop the movie.
  2. Select DVD Languages.
  3. Select Subtitle, select Menu, or select Audio track. Then, select a different language from the list.
  4. Resume playback of the DVD movie.
In this scenario, the language changes may not be applied.
