SYMPTOMS

When you try to open an .msg file in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 opens a window that contains the following error message:
No Page to display / Action Cancelled.
This problem may occur on a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer that is running Outlook 2003 and Internet Explorer 6. Or this problem may occur on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1-based computer that is running Outlook 2003 and Internet Explorer 6.

RESOLUTION

Windows XP

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click to select the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_CLOSE_EMPTY_BROWSER_KB920982
  4. After you select the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  5. Type iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click iexplore.exe, and then click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 00000001, and then click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
