Symptom

When you run the Fix My Network Wizard (FNCW) to fix an issue with the Exchange SMTP connectors, you receive the following error message:

The server cannot correct the SMTP connectors. Ensure that Exchange is running, and then try again.

The wizard is unable to fix the SMTP connectors.

Cause

This problem can occur for one of the following reasons:
  • The network bindings, remote IP ranges, and authentication settings are wrong on the “Windows SBS Fax Sharepoint Receive <ServerName>” connector.
  • The authentication and permission groups settings are wrong on the “Windows SBS Internet Receive <ServerName>” connector.

Resolution

You will need to verify the properties for both receive connectors as follows:
  1. In the Exchange Management Console, expand Server Configuration, click Hub Transport, and then click the Receive Connectors tab.
  2. Right-click on the “Windows SBS Fax Sharepoint Receive <ServerName>” receive connector, and then click Properties. Verify the following:
    • Under the Network tab, ensure that the local IP address is set to 127.0.0.1, the port is set to 25, and the remote IP address(es) are 127.0.0.1-127.0.0.1
    • Under the Authentication tab, ensure that only Basic Authentication is selected.
    • Under the Permission Groups tab, ensure that only Anonymous users and Exchange users are selected.
  3. Right-click on the “Windows SBS Internet Receive <ServerName>” receive connector, and then click Properties. Verify the following:
    • Under the Authentication tab, ensure that only Transport Layer Security (TLS) is enabled.
    • Under the Permission Groups tab, ensure that only Anonymous users is selected.

In rare cases, you may need to delete the “Windows SBS Fax Sharepoint Receive <ServerName>” and ”Windows SBS Internet Receive <ServerName>” connectors and rerun the Fix My Network Wizard (FNCW) to create them with the proper settings.
