Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.

Symptoms

When you run a complex query that contains aggregates functions, join functions, and distinct functions in subqueries in a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 environment, you may receive incorrect results. Additionally, when you run the same query in Parallel Data Warehouse (PDW), you may receive different results that are also incorrect.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a problem in the SQL Server query optimizer.
