Summary

This article describes the Microsoft Outlook 2010 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated October 25, 2011.

INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You have an .msg file that has the Restricted permission enabled.

    • You change the email message and then save the changes to the .msg file in Outlook 2010.

    • You send the email message.

In this scenario, the recipient of the email message receives the following error message in the email message body:

You have received a message with restricted permission.
Open this item to read its content.

  • When you try to save an email message as an .msg file to a UNC share, the email message may not be saved as expected. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

The operation failed. The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook.

  • Assume that you try to develop an add-in to disable the following operations in Outlook 2010. However, there are no functions, and objects may be called to disable the following operations:

    • Click File, click Print and then click Print.

    • Hold CTRL, press P, and then click Print.

  • When you use an IMAP account to send an email message, the delivery of the email message may fail. If the delivery of the email message fails, you receive a non-delivery report (NDR) in the Inbox as expected. However, the NDR disappears from the Inbox when you click to view another folder in the Outlook Folder List.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • Office 2010 Service Pack 1 is installed on your computer.

    • You change the value of the FBPublishRange registry entry under the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\outlook\preferences
Note The FBPublishRange registry entry is used to specify the period, in months, for which you want to publish Free/Busy information to the Microsoft Exchange Server in Outlook 2010.

    • You start Outlook 2010.

In this scenario, the free/busy information is not published to the Exchange server at the frequency that you set.

  • You cannot open a hyperlink in an email message when the hyperlink address contains "file://" and the number sign (#) in Outlook 2010. For example, you cannot open a hyperlink if the hyperlink address is "file://server/public/share/te#st".
Note This hotfix does not resolve the issue if the number sign (#) is the last character in the hyperlink address. For example, this hotfix does not resolve the issue if the hyperlink address is "file://server/public/share/test#."

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You use Rich Text Format (RTF) to create an email message that has the Do Not Forward permission enabled in Outlook 2010.

    • You save the email message as a draft.

    • You open the draft and then click To to add a recipient.

    • You try to save the email message.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

Microsoft Outlook was not able to create a message with restricted permission.

Then, you enable the No Restrictions permission on the draft and save the draft. When you try to reopen the draft, the following information is displayed in the body of the email message:

If you are not running an e-mail application that supports messages with restricted permission, such as Microsoft Office 2003 or later, you can view this message by downloading the Rights Management Add-on for Internet Explorer from http://officeredir.microsoft.com/r/rlidRestrictedPermissionViewer?clid=1033&ver=14&app=outlook.exe&lidhelp=0409&liduser=0409&lidui=0409

  • When you upgrade to Outlook 2010, the Download shared folders option is enabled. This occurs even if you use the Office Customization Tool (OCT) to disable the option before you upgrade to Outlook 2010.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You move an email message that has multiple recipients from an Exchange server to a .pst file.

    • You click Reply All to reply to that email message in Outlook 2010.

    • You type the first character of one of the recipient's names, other than the original sender, in a new email message. Then, you select the recipient from the autocomplete list.

    • You open the Contact Card of the recipient.

In this scenario, the Organization tab and the Member Of tab are not displayed in the Contact Card.

  • When you run Outlook 2010 in online mode, a recurring meeting is either not displayed in your Calendar or displayed at the wrong time. Additionally, a reminder for the meeting is not displayed as expected. This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

    • The recurring meeting was created in an earlier version of Outlook.

    • The earlier version of Outlook used the Jerusalem time zone and had DST disabled.
