Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • A user is in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment.

  • The user has certain phonetic attributes that begin with msDS-Phonetic in Active Directory schema attributes.

  • You disable the user’s mailbox.

In this scenario, the following phonetic attributes are cleared unexpectedly:

  • msDS-PhoneticCompanyName

  • msDS-PhoneticDepartment

  • msDS-PhoneticFirstName

  • msDS-PhoneticLastName

Cause

This issue occurs because the Exchange Server 2010 server incorrectly clears these attributes when it disables the user’s mailbox.


Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

2645995 Description of Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
