Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You have Windows Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 9 installed on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
-
You create an instance of the JScript scripting engine by using the IActiveScriptSite interface and the IActiveScript interface.
-
You execute a script in the new instance of the JScript scripting engine.
-
You release the instance of the JScript scripting engine. However, you do not close the instance.
-
You call and then release the script objects
In this scenario, you may notice that the instance of the JScript scripting engine leaks memory.
Resolution
To resolve this problem, install the update that is described this this section. After you install this update, set the SCRIPTPROP_HOSTKEEPALIVE property to True. For more information about this property, go to the following Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) website:

Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 together with Internet Explorer 9
To resolve this problem for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 on a system that has Internet Explorer 9 installed, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to the following Microsoft website:

Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 together with Internet Explorer 8
To resolve this problem for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 on a system that has Internet Explorer 8 installed, apply this hotfix. This problem is also resolved by the JScript.dll file that is installed by security update 2706045.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.
