Microsoft Advances into the Hardware Appliance Market with SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse and initiates a New Hardware Support Lifecycle Policy



Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse (PDW) is a highly scalable appliance that delivers performance at low cost through a massively parallel processing.

Customers need to safeguard their investment in their IT infrastructures and have come to expect consistency and predictability from Microsoft Support Lifecycle policies.

PDW appliance is a new breed of Microsoft product as it is sold with hardware provided by select Microsoft Partners. When a customer invests in the PDW appliance, they can be confident that Microsoft will over time support the appliance as integrated whole: both the different Microsoft software components and with the help of our hardware partners the underlying hardware with which it is sold.

Support Lifecycle Policy for the PDW appliance

Support availability:

Microsoft Support services will be available for five years following Microsoft’s date for the end of sales. This ensures that customers can expect support for both the hardware and software provided in a SQL Server PDW product.

This Support Lifecycle policy differs from traditional on-premise software Support Lifecycle policies as the time for support is based on the end of sales date, not general availability (GA) in the market.

By providing customers with clear support timelines, the Support Lifecycle Policy for Online Services for Business and Developers will enable our customers to benefit fully from the dynamism of online services.
