SYMPTOMS

In some cases, inserting a large .WAV file object into either an OLE 1.0 or OLE 2.0 container will fail.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a bug in the Sound Recorder, which fails to respond positively to a WM_DDE_REQUEST for native data. The result is that the data cannot be successfully saved because the data has not been retrieved. The problem can occur in any version of OLE.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Windows 3.1 Sound Recorder.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem is not reproducible with all large .WAV files and results in a variety of symptoms from OLE 1.0 clients and OLE 2.0 containers.
