Works Error: "Cannot Access File" Saving Spreadsheet to Floppy Disk

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Save command on the File menu in Works to save a spreadsheet to a floppy disk, and the Make Backup Copy check box is selected, you may receive the following error message
Microsoft Works
Cannot access file: insert disk containing file: <drive>:\<FILENAME.TMP>
where <FILENAME.TMP> is the name of a temporary file Works is trying to create and <drive> is the floppy disk drive to which you are saving the spreadsheet.

RESOLUTION

Use one of the following workarounds:

  1. From the File menu, click Save As to save the spreadsheet.
    -or-
  2. Do not use the Make Backup Copy check box located in the Save As dialog box (clear this check box if it is selected).
