SYMPTOMS

When you use the US Robotics Sportster V.FC and V.34 modems with any communications program, the connections may drop unexpectedly.

CAUSE

US Robotics states that the problem occurs due to the incompatibilities in the V.FC protocols retaining sequences. If your modem has a Supervisor date of 11/30/94 or earlier, you may experience this problem. To determine the Supervisor date of the modem, start your communications program and issue an ATI7 command. The modem's configuration profile appears.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, obtain an EPROM chip upgrade and the complete V.34 28.8-kbps protocol from US Robotics Technical Support at (708) 982-5151.

The Sportster V.FC and V.34 modems are manufactured by US-Robotics, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability.
