This article was previously published under Q136700
Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to paste a record that contains a serialized field, the serialized field in the pasted record is no longer incremented, and the formatting of the serialized field is lost.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

To force the serialized field in the pasted record to be incremented, use the Fill Series command on the Edit menu.

To do this:
  1. In the database List view, select the serialized field.
  2. On the Format menu, click Protection.
  3. Turn off protection on the serialized field. Click OK.
  4. Select the serialized field of the first pasted record.
  5. Enter the correct serial value.
  6. Select the remaining entries of the pasted range of the serialized field.
  7. On the Edit menu, click Fill Series.
  8. Enter the value to add to each field in the Step By: box. Click OK.
  9. On the Format menu, click Field.
  10. Enter the appropriate value in the Next value field and then click OK. Protection is automatically turned on.
