WD95: Outline Numbering Brackets Lost When Document Imported from Word 97

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Word 97 document in Word for Windows 95, version 7.0, brackets that exist in the number format are lost. This problem occurs when the numbering format is applied only to selected text (it does not occur if the numbering is applied to the whole document).

CAUSE

This problem is caused by the Word 97 Import Converter (Mswrd832.cnv) that ships with Office 97 in the ValuPack folder (Wrd97cnv.exe).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade to the latest version of the Word 97-2000 Import Converter. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem is corrected in the version of the converter available with Microsoft Office 97 SR-2.
