PUB: "Mspub.exe is linked to missing Pubole32.dll" Starting Publisher

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Publisher, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Publisher\Mspub.exe

A device attached to the system is not working.
If you click OK, you see the following additional message:
Error Starting Program

The Mspub.exe file is linked to missing export PUBOLE32.DLL:_MatSetObjectExtents@12

CAUSE

This error message occurs if the Pubole32.dll file is missing or has been corrupted.

RESOLUTION

Search your hard disk drive for all copies of Pubole32.dll. You should only have one copy. This copy should be in your Windows\System folder and have the following properties:
                    Publisher 97        Publisher 95
                    ------------        ------------
Date:               8/6/96              8/15/95 or 8/16/95
Size:               65,536              65,536
Internal Version #: 4.0                 3.0.5.624
				
Delete or rename any copies of this file that don't match these criteria.

NOTE: You may need to reinstall Publisher to reinstall the correct, uncorrupted file.
