Symptoms

When you attempt to send a message to a group in Internet Mail or Internet News, you may receive the following error message:
The message could not be sent.
An error has occurred.

Cause

This problem occurs when a particular contact appears more than once in the group to which you are attempting to send a message.

Resolution

To work around this problem, modify the group so that the contact appears only once. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu in Internet Mail or Internet News, click Address Book.
  2. Click the group that you want to modify in the list of contacts and groups, and then click Properties on the File menu or the toolbar.
  3. Click one of the occurrences of the contact in the Members area, and then click Remove. Repeat this step until the contact appears in the Members area only once.
Note that this behavior does not occur in the updated version 1.0 of Internet Mail and News for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. Download and install the latest version of Internet Mail and News 1.0.
