When you remove the reference to the "Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library" in Visual Basic Editor, the following message appears:
Can't remove control or reference; in use
and you are unable to remove the reference from your project.

The "Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library" is required by the Visual Basic Editor. The reference cannot be removed.

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 97 and Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

More information

The References dialog box allows you to add or remove references to object libraries or type libraries. When you add a reference, your Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications project code can access the objects in the library.

NOTE: After you add a reference to a library, the objects in the library appear in the Object Browser.

For more information about the Visual Basic Editor, click the Index tab in Microsoft Excel 97 Help, type the following text
macro sheets
and then double-click the selected text to go to the "About workbooks and worksheets" topic.
