Netmon Performance Counters Support a Maximum of Eight Adapters

SYMPTOMS

If you have a server with more than eight network interfaces installed and you use the Network Segment object in Performance Monitor to monitor all your network interfaces, you are only able to monitor the first eight bound interfaces.

CAUSE

There is a hard-coded limit of eight supported Network Segment interfaces in the Netmon performance counter DLL.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: This hotfix supports monitoring a maximum of 16 interfaces on one computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
