This article discusses how to convert word processing documents between the versions of Works listed at the beginning of this article and Word 97.

To complete the steps below, you must install the Works for Windows 95 converter. This converter is included with Office 97 or Word 97.

To Install the Works for Windows Converters

1.Close all programs.
2.Click Start, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
3.Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
4.On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Office 97 or Word 97 and then click Add/Remove.
5.In the Setup window click Add/Remove.
6.Under Options, click Converters And Filters, and then click Change Option.
7.Click Text Converters and then click Change Option.
8.Click Works For Windows 4.0 to place a check in the box.
9.Click OK and complete the Setup.
NOTE: The Works for Windows converter will only be available in Word 97.

To Convert a Works for Windows WP File to Word 97

1.Start Word 97.
2.On the File menu click Open.
3.Under Files Of Type, click Works 4.0 For Windows.
4.Locate the file to be converted and click Open.

To Convert a Word 97 Document to Works for Windows

1.Open the document in Word 97.
2.On the File menu click Save As.
3.Under Save As Type, click Works 4.0 For Windows.
4.Click Save.
5.Start Works for Windows and open the document.
