OL97: Fault in Module MSO97.DLL Opening Folder

SYMPTOMS

When you click a system file folder in Microsoft Outlook 97, running on Microsoft Windows 95, you may receive the following error message:
OUTLOOK caused an Invalid Page Fault
in module MSO97.DLL at 14F:306C34B9
If you are running on Microsoft Windows NT, the error message may read:
An application error has occurred
and an application error log is being generated
OUTLOOK.exe
Exception access violation (0xc0000005), Address 0x58a07ab2.

CAUSE

There is a problem in the Views.dat file. This file stores File Allocation Table (FAT) name space view persistence.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the issue, quit Outlook, rename Views.dat file (normally found in the default Windows directory), and restart Outlook. This rebuilds the Views.dat file.

NOTE: All previous view settings for file system folders will be lost.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 97.
