Before you edit the registry, you should first make a backup copy of the
registry files (System.dat and User.dat). Both are hidden files in the
Windows folder.
SYMPTOMS
The option for logging an Internet Mail session defaults to off after
installing the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97
(IMEP). To turn the option on, you must modify the Windows registry. This
article describes how to make that modification.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. RESOLUTION
When you turn the Internet Mail logging option on, a new subfolder is
created under the Windows folder. This sub folder has the same name as your
Internet Mail Service. The sub folder contains 3 files for logging
various activities:
InetXP.txt
Pop3log.txt
Smtplog.txt
For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing Keys And
Values online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you
should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat)
before you edit the registry.
