XL97: Conditional Format Reapplied After Inserting Cut Cells

SYMPTOMS

When you select a range of cells, click Cut on the Edit menu, and then insert the cells in a different location on the worksheet, Microsoft Excel may fail to apply conditional formatting to the correct cells.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you do the following:
  • You select a range of cells and click Cut on the Edit menu. -and-

  • You insert the cut cells immediately below a range of cells to which you applied conditional formatting.
Note that Microsoft Excel 97 applies the conditional formatting to the cells you inserted below the original cell with the conditional formatting.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Excel 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel 97 SR-1.
