When you use the Advanced Filter command in Microsoft Excel 97, you may receive the following error message:
The extract range has a missing or illegal field name.
This problem may occur if one or more column headings in the list of data are missing even though the data record Field Information for the missing column is present.
NOTE: This problem does not occur in earlier versions of Microsoft Excel.
To work around this problem, use the Advanced Filter command a second time immediately after receiving the error message; when you do this, you do not receive the error message again. In addition, if you use column headings for all of the fields, you do not receive the error message.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.
For more information about the Advanced Filter command, click the Office Assistant in Microsoft Excel 97, type advanced filter click Search, and then click to view "Advanced Filter."
NOTE: If the Assistant is hidden, click the Office Assistant button on the Standard toolbar. If Microsoft Help is not installed on your computer, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
