The prices may not automatically update in MSN Money Investing or in Money when you download securities from your broker

When you download securities from your broker, the prices may not automatically update in MSN Money Investing or in Microsoft Money.

This issue may occur if your broker uses a different ticker symbol than the symbol Money and MSN Money Investing received from their quote provider.

For example, Aetna preferred class C stock, 6.25%, can have a variety of symbols: AET PRC, AET+C, AETpC, and AET/PRC.

To allow updates to occur properly, change the investment name and symbol. To edit the investment, use the appropriate method for either MSN Money Investing or Money.

MSN Money Investing

1. In Portfolio Manager, double-click the investment that you want to edit.
2. Change the symbol to the correct symbol that is used by the quote provider for MSN Money Investing.

Note To find the appropriate symbol, click Find Symbol.

Money 2000 and later versions

1. In Money, click Investments on the navigation bar.
2. Click Portfolio.
3. Right-click the Investment, and then click See Details.
4. Edit the Investment Name and Symbol to the name and symbol that is used by the quote provider for Money.
   
   Note You may have to do this before each connection.

Money 99

1. In Money, click Investments on the navigation bar.
2. Click the drop-down arrow next to Investments in the left pane, and then click to select the investment.
   
   Click Details to display the details for this investment.
3. Edit the Investment Name and Symbol to the name and symbol that is used by the quote provider for Money.
   
   Note You may have do this before each connection.

Money 98

1. In Money, click Investments on the navigation bar.
2. Click the drop-down arrow next to Investments in the left pane, and then click to select the investment.
   
   In Money 98, this displays the details for this investment.
3. Edit the Investment Name and Symbol to the name and symbol that is used by the quote provider for Money.
   
   Note You may have to do this before each connection. After you import the next statement from the broker, you may have to correct any added transactions.

After you change the symbol, so that prices can be updated, the next import of your brokerage statement may result in new transactions for the broker symbol and a Sell or a Remove Shares transaction associated with the changed symbol.
