OFF97: Cannot Find Program.exe When Downloading Clip Art Images

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a clip art image from the Microsoft Clip Gallery live Web site, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Windows cannot find program.exe. This program is needed for opening files of clip art gallery download.
Even though you receive this message, the clip art file (.cil) is downloaded to your computer.

NOTE: The Design Gallery Live Web site is located at:
http://dgl.microsoft.com (http://dgl.microsoft.com)

CAUSE

This error occurs if the Artgalry.exe is corrupted or missing.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Replace the Artgalry.exe with a New Copy

  1. In Windows Explorer, open the Artgalry folder on the compact disc. Use the following table to determine the location of your Artgalry folder:
          CD-ROM                    LOCATION
          ------                    --------
          Microsoft Publisher 97    Shared\Artgalry
          Microsoft PowerPoint 97   Os\Msapps\Artgalry
          Microsoft Office 97       Os\Msapps\Artgalry
    						
  2. Copy the Artgalry.exe from the compact disk to the \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Artgalry folder on the hard disk.
You should now be able to open the clip packages on the Design Gallery Live Web site.

Method 2: Rename Artgalry.exe and then Reinstall Clip Gallery

  1. In Windows Explorer, open the \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Artgalry folder.
  2. Rename the Artgalry.exe on your hard disk.
  3. Quit all programs.
  4. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  5. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  6. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.
  7. Click the appropriate application (for example, click Microsoft Office 97) and then click Add/Remove.
  8. Click Reinstall.
You should now be able to open the clip packages on the Design Gallery Live Web site.
