XL97: Recalculating Displays Values from Another Workbook

SYMPTOMS

When you recalculate your Microsoft Excel workbook, some of the values in the workbook may appear in another open workbook.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The workbook contains several DDE links to other programs. -and-

  • The workbook contains formulas.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, obtain Microsoft Excel 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2). For additional information about SR-2, please click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To work around this behavior temporarily, cycle through the workbooks after they are open. By doing this, you prevent the data in the workbooks from "bleeding through" from one workbook to the other.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
