Microsoft has developed add-in tools that you can use with
Microsoft Excel 97 and Microsoft Excel 2000. These can help you prepare dates
in Excel workbooks for transitioning from earlier versions of Excel or for
auditing workbooks for the year 2000.
- The Date Migration Wizard handles specific kinds of dates
that are in workbooks created in earlier versions of Excel. These dates use
years that are two-digit numbers between 20 and 29. Further, the Date Migration
Wizard identifies potentially ambiguous date operations, uses of date functions
and links to external databases that may introduce external date dependencies.
- The Date Fix Wizard allows you to change the date format of
two-digit-year dates quickly and easily, or to modify serial number dates so
that they fall within a specified century. It also helps you look for dates
with a format like "Dec 98", which will not function properly in the year 2001.
The Date Fix Wizard also identifies non-Gregorian formatted dates.
International versions of Excel support the Hijri calendar, the Hebrew
calendar, the Japanese Imperial calendar, and other calendar systems. Because
these calendars are not approaching the year 2000, be careful about evaluating
workbooks that contain dates using these non-Gregorian calendars. - The Date Watch Wizard monitors your work for year-ambiguous
dates and formats, and corrects them when you type them into a cell.
NOTE: Because the Date Watch Wizard is a macro, it disables the Undo
feature of Excel when triggered.
NOTES
- These Date Migration Tools are for Microsoft Excel 97
Service Release 2 (SR-2) and Microsoft Excel 2000 only. You must have SR-2 installed before you can install the Date
Migration Tools. To obtain the SR-2 upgrade for Microsoft Excel 97 visit the
following Web site: If you have Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, please click

XL98: Year 2000 Wizards for Microsoft Excel 98
- The Date Migration Tools are not compatible with XLM (Excel
4 Macro Language) programs. Please disable these before running the Date
Migration Tools.
- This article points to the latest versions of these
wizards, which replace any earlier versions. If you have previously downloaded
these wizards, you may want to make sure you have the latest
version.
- In the past, the Date Migration Wizard did not locate or
examine DATE, DAY, MONTH, NOW, and TODAY. The most recent version of the Date
Migration Wizard does not locate or examine DAY, MONTH, NOW, or TODAY, but does locate and examine DATE. In the past, DATE checking was
incorporated into the Date Function Wizard, but now DATE checking has moved to
the Date Migration Wizard.
Installation and Use
To install the Date Migration Tools, download the following file
from the Microsoft Download Center

Download DM2.exe now
(http://download.microsoft.com/download/excel40/update/1/win98/en-us/dm2.exe)
which contains a single add-in file that includes the three
wizards mentioned here. This is different from earlier versions of this tool
that consisted of several add-in files. Although the number of wizards and
add-in files has changed in this version, all functionality of the earlier
versions has been maintained. Also, the tool now checks for date-sensitive
functions used in defined names.
