Paste Command Missing When You Right-Click the Favorites Folder

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to paste a file into the Favorites folder by right- clicking the folder in Windows Explorer, Windows NT Explorer, or My Computer, the Paste command may be missing from the menu that appears.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Windows Desktop Update component is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Internet Explorer 4.01. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx/ (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx/)
To work around this problem, click the Favorites folder, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.

By design, you cannot paste files into the History, Subscriptions, Tasks, or Downloaded Program Files folder. The Paste command is missing from the menu that appears when you right-click a folder, and from the Edit menu in Windows Explorer, Windows NT Explorer, and My Computer.

If User Profiles are not enabled in Windows 95, the Favorites folder is located in the Windows folder in Internet Explorer 4.0 for Windows 95. If User Profiles are enabled in Windows 95, the Favorites folder is located in either the Windows folder or the Windows\Profiles\<username> folder, where <username> is the name you use to log on to Windows 95.

The Favorites folder is located in the Winnt\Profiles\<username> folder in Internet Explorer 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0, where <username> is the name you use to log on to Windows NT.
