To use command line options for Outlook Express, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK:
    "drive:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe" /option
    where drive is the hard disk on which the Program Files\Outlook Express folder is located, and option is the command line option you want to use.

    NOTE: The command line must be typed as it appears above, including the quotation marks.

Command Line Options

outnews or newsonly

This option starts Outlook Express in the News Reader Only mode. When you use this option, you cannot send or receive e-mail, and the Mail tab in the Internet Accounts dialog box is missing.

mailonly

This option starts Outlook Express in the Mail Only mode. When you use this option, you cannot view newsgroups, and the News tab in the Internet Accounts dialog box is missing. Note that this command-line switch does not work in Outlook Express 5.
