To connect to a chat server using Microsoft Chat, use the appropriate method:

Standard Chat Server

When you start Microsoft Chat, you can click one of the default chat servers, or you can type a new server name in the Server box, and then click OK.

Chat Server with Different Port

If your Internet Relay Chat (IRC) server requires you to connect to a port other than the default port (port 6667), type the server name separated by a colon in the Server box, and then click OK. For example:
irc.msn.com:7000

Working Offline

If you are working offline, you can connect to an IRC server. To do so, click New Connection on the File menu, click (or type the name of) your IRC server in the Server dialog box, and then click OK.
