TWAIN is a technology used to acquire an image directly from a scanner and
insert it into your document or publication. Because Publisher is TWAIN-
compliant, it installs the following TWAIN components:
Twain.dll
Twain_32.dll
Twunk_16.exe
Twunk_32.exe
Publisher Setup copies these files into your Windows folder.
For a program to be TWAIN-compliant, it must install at least these four files. MORE INFORMATION
These files by themselves are not enough to enable TWAIN on your computer.
As a minimum, you must have the following additional components:

This means that if you have a 16-bit graphics program that supports TWAIN, you should still be able to use it after you install Publisher. | Article Translations
