In Microsoft Word, when you select a word to check its spelling and you run
the spelling checker, it highlights and checks the spelling of a different
word.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

To prevent this problem from occurring, turn off the "Check grammar with
spelling" setting. To do this, follow these steps:
MORE INFORMATION
If there is only one misspelled word in the sentence where the word has
been highlighted to be spell checked, then the spell check will be
performed correctly; however, if there is a misspelled word in the same
sentence prior to the word that has been selected to be spell checked, then
Word will select the first misspelled word in the sentence. Word will
proceed to check any other misspelled words in the same sentence. After
Word completes the spell check of the sentence, Word will present the
following question:
Word finished checking the selection. Do you want to continue checking
the remainder of the document?
Click Yes if you desire to check the rest of the document; click No if you
do not want to continue with the spell check of the document.
